Speed Up UV Unwrapping in Blender with This Simple Trick

UV unwrapping can feel slow and repetitive if you’re marking seams one by one. The good news? Blender has powerful tools that let you unwrap your models faster and with more control. In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to speed up UV unwrapping using live unwrap, seam selection shortcuts, and mirroring tricks for symmetrical objects.

Enable Live Unwrap for Instant Feedback

  1. Select your object.
  2. Enter Edit Mode and switch to Edge Selection.
  3. In the 3D Viewport, go to Options and enable Live Unwrap.
  4. Open the UV Editor and enable Sync Selection so you always see the UV map.

Now, every time you mark or clear a seam, the UV map updates instantly. This helps you check results as you go instead of unwrapping manually each time.

Marking and Clearing Seams Quickly

  • Select an edge, right-click, and choose Mark Seam or Clear Seam.
  • With live unwrap enabled, Blender automatically updates the UV map.

This simple step cuts down on extra clicks and keeps your workflow smooth.

Speed Up Edge Selection

Instead of marking seams one edge at a time, use Blender’s shortest path tool:

  • Select one edge, hold Control, then select another edge.
  • Blender selects all edges in between.
  • The Pick Shortest Path menu appears. Set the edge tag to Seam.

From now on, whenever you control-select two edges, Blender automatically sets the entire path as a seam—and live unwrap updates the UV instantly.

Mirroring Seams on Symmetrical Models

For symmetrical objects, you don’t need to unwrap both sides manually.

  1. Add seams on one side of the model.
  2. Select one seam, then press Shift + GSeam to select all seams.
  3. Press Control + Shift + M to mirror the selection.
  4. Right-click and choose Mark Seam.

This mirrors all your seams, saving time and ensuring perfect symmetry.
